The Latest Kitchen Design Trends for 2023

As a kitchen design enthusiast, I am excited to announce the latest kitchen design trends for 2023.

I love to see how kitchen design trends have changed over the last 30 years of my career. I remember the white thermofoil doors, frosted maple wood doors, fancy acanthus leaf or grape carved moldings, crown molding with egg and dart inserts, Formica countertops were the norm, and granite was a luxury. Today I am seeing sleek matte black cabinets, exotic woods, striking quartz, bold lighting, and so much more. Let’s take a look now.

The year 2022 was a year of continuing transition and adaptation since the pandemic which influenced the way we perceive our living spaces. This phenomenon caused people to rethink their home spaces and propelled the trend toward creating cozy and functional home environments while advancing the focus on the environment. And the kitchen, being the heart of the home, has become more important than ever today, especially with the creation of more work-from-home opportunities.

Here is a look at the top trends that I am seeing from other designers, magazines, and social media posts so far this year.

Dark and Bold Colors:

2023 will be the year of the bold and daring. The use of dark and moody colors such as black, navy blue, and forest green will add depth and richness to your kitchen design. These colors can be used on cabinetry, countertops, and even walls.

Statement Lighting:

Lighting is an essential element in any kitchen design. In 2023, statement lighting fixtures will be all the rage. Large pendants, chandeliers, and even neon signs will make a bold statement and add a touch of personality to your kitchen. Also, new adjustable K-value LED under-counter light fixtures will make your job easier and your client’s life better.

Mixed Materials:

Combining different materials and textures is a trend that will continue to gain popularity in 2023. Think rift-cut wood, metal, concrete, and glass all in one project. Mixing different materials will add dimension and create a unique visual interest in your kitchen design. Don’t hold back, mix it up and be creative!

Minimalism:

The minimalist trend will continue to thrive in 2023. Sleek and simple designs with clean lines will give your kitchen design a timeless and modern feel. Open shelving and minimalistic cabinetry will be the go-to choice for many homeowners. Gone are the days of upper wall cabinets everywhere and welcome to the wall of tile or stone with open shelves next to the cooktop.

Smart Technology:

Technology is advancing at an unprecedented pace, and the kitchen is no exception. In 2023, smart kitchen appliances such as refrigerators, ovens, and coffee makers will be more advanced than ever. They will integrate seamlessly with the rest of your kitchen design and make your life easier. If your client is of a smaller stature you don’t have to worry about reaching the hood controls because there is an app for that!

Sustainability:

Sustainable design is not a new trend, but it is becoming more important than ever. In 2023, more clients will be looking for eco-friendly kitchen design solutions. From recycled materials to energy-efficient appliances, sustainability will be at the forefront of many kitchen design projects. Keep an eye out for

Multi-Functional Spaces:

The open-concept kitchen model with multi-function spaces will continue to be a must-have in 2023, especially with the introduction of new built-in and under-counter appliances. The kitchen has and will always be a space for cooking but more frequently will also be used for entertaining, working, and relaxing. Designing a kitchen that can accommodate all these functions will require careful planning and consideration.
